My Weird Style Evolution/

Buckle
Pants/ штаны: Ellen Tracy
Sandals/ шлёпанцы: Birkenstock
Bag/ сумка: Vera Bradley

Lipstick/ помада: Stila Biscotti

Yes, this is me wearing a crop top. Considering I am far from an appropriate age and far from an appropriate body, that is probably, well, inappropriate. But do I care? Not at all. With all the craziness going on arouyin the world, will all the changes my life has taken, with all the uncertainty, as well as having to wear a mask all the time - taking risks in style gets more and more easy. This summer is far from a proper summer too: there will be no vacations, no beaches, no pools, no traveling, we will be wearing masks instead of summer makeup, the kids won’t go to summer camps and might not even be getting ready to back to school in August. The world has become so weird, that it feels like the past is so far away, the future is so uncertain, that all we have is the world of NOW. And of course, so is our style. I don’t want my “safe” and plain outfit, I am sick of safety and fear, I want to experiment out of my comfort zone. And this is where my today’s outfit comes from. Next time I might even wear my pink tulle skirt that I haven’t dared to wear ever before!

Shorts. The Most Controversial Summer Clothing Item/

Shorts/ шорты: vintage from a thrift store
Top/ топ: St.John
Jacket/ жакет: Lafayette 148
Shoes/ туфли: J Crew
Bag/ сумка: Kate Spade

Lips/ губы: Tom Ford Pussycat

I don't wear shorts much. I consider them on the edge of unappropriate/ unflattering/ too casual, etc. But this summer it is different. After doing my research in the current trends, I am finally seeing something I like: something wide, oversized and long. Something I can see myself wearing. So I wen tinto a a thrift store and searched for something vintage that I could transform into a trendy piece. Because when I am testing out a trend, I am not going to buy a $300 pair of shorts. So I found these vintage cargo shorts in 2 sizes too big, too long for me, but I new they would be perfect.

Why Fast Fashion is Evil, After All/ Почему фаст-фэшн - это все-таки зло

Suit/ костюм: H&M
Top/ топ : Vince
Shoes/ туфли: Paul Green
Bag/ сумка: Tory Burch
Hat/ шляпа: Rag&Bone
Necklace/ колье: J Crew

Lips/ губы: Nars Starwoman

My attitude to fast fashion is rather negative, than positive. And the reason is not their poor quality, I have a few Zara and H&M pieces and most of them are surprisingly good quality and have been in my wardrobe for over 10 years. And not because of their exploitation of labor in poor countries. It is disgusting but still very controversial, since they also provide employment opportunities for those countries. And the that is how the economy works - the business has never had anything to do with conscience, and it works not only for those fast-fashion brands, but also for premier designers who use that to raise their prices and maintain themselves as luxurious.

My main objection to the fast fashion brands is that they depreciate the essence of fashion by producing loads of faceless clothing pieces that give their consumer an illusion of being trendy, or fashionable. As I mentioned above, that gives the premium designers an excuse to raise their prices because they want to keep their luxury status, and to the medium-priced contemporary brands - gives an excuse to decrease their quality. But again, that is how business works: instead of suing fast-fashion brands for stealing their designs, they’d rather raise the prices and the “luxuriousness” and the inaccessibility vibe of their merchandise.

So, all we can do is be smart when shopping because we are being sold this “vibe”, and that is not what we are shopping for. We are shopping for style, longevity and affordability in our clothes. And that’s why we shall avoid fast fashion brands. No wonder Zara and Chanel are usually located at the same shopping mall or same street all over the world. The first ones are trying to sell us the luxury vibe by being ridiculously cheap, the second are doing the same by being ridiculously expensive. And none of those have anything to do with style. Fashion is an art that includes not only creating a unique piece of clothing, but also, for a consumer, being able to find the piece, to shop for the piece that fits their style and budget. Therefore, I am all for boycotting fast fashion and shopping secondhand. We have so many options: thrift stores, eBay, Poshmark, discount stores like Saks Off5th, Nordstrom Rack, TjMaxx, etc.

This H&M Suit was my last fast-fashion purchase 4 years ago. Now I don’t even go into those stores, I intentionally avoid them, and my style has only benefited from that.

Can You Mend a Life like You Mend a Dress?/

Antonio Melani
Belt/ ремень: Calvin Klein
Shoes/ туфли: Louise et Cie
Bag/ сумка: Kate Spade

Lips/ губы: Bite Beauty Cava
Nails/ лак: Dolce & Gabbana Lemon

I found this dress in thrift store. It was not my size, it had tears and it screamed: "My life is over!"
It was costing way too much for the condition it had. But nothing stopped me: I fell in love with the color and the style and I love the brand, so I bought it. I took it to be repaired professionally and dry cleaned. The size worked perfectly for me since it was 4 sizes to big, but with today’s fashion for oversize it fit me perfectly. And do I need to tell how much I love it? This color is just wonderful, it should become basic instead of all the blacks and the whites.

This got me thinking: isn't our life just the same? Falling apart so many times and being mended back. It is never possible to get those seams to be invisible, but they dо keep it together. Those seams leave scars forever, on our hearts, our souls but we still keep going. Cause life is definitely worth mending it, fighting for it and going on.

A New Life for an Old Dress/

Talbots
Jacket/ жакет: Banana Republic
Shoes/ туфли: Paul Green
Bag/ сумка: Kate Spade
Sunglasses/ очки: Ray-Ban

Take an old-fashioned dress with a contrasting classic print, then add a trendy oversize jacket and modern slip-on shoes - and we've got ourselves a stylish outfit.

I don't feel like writing. My mind is lazy and bored. I don't like this current lifestyle, sitting in a trap. I can't even do my outfits normally, because my philosophy is to put an outfit on in the morning and to wear it for the whole day. Now I can't even do that. And I have to change for my son's therapy Zoom sessions. And I hate changing. And I hate basically any change.

The Line Between Looking Stylish and Looking Too Comfortable to Be Stylish/

Holding Horses
Jeans/ джинсы: Madewell
Hat/ шляпа: rag & bone
Shoes/ туфли: Paul Green
Bag/ сумка: Tory Burch

Nails/ лак: Dior Garden
Lips/ губы: Lime Crime Cashmere

Linen season is here, so here is my new outfit: "ugly" jeans and a short loose linen shirt. The оnly reason I like this outfit is for being a perfect combination for my favorite "ugly" jeans. Otherwise, it almost too comfortable to be stylish. And fashion has nothing to do with comfort. If I was giving a fashion and style advice, my first one would be: STOP chasing the comfort, separate it from fashion forever, and finding your style would become much easier!

Don't Lock it Up in the Closet!/

Louise et Cie

Lips/ помада: Nars Powermatte in Star Woman

Yes, I am talking about the dress. That special amazing dress you have locked up in your closet waiting for the "special occasion". Well, considering how many special occasions have been cancelled over the last month in the entire world - do they even mean anything anymore? Why would you wait for them any more? Just put it on and let it be now!

P.S. Are you still in your sweatpants?
